Faiths for Fun Event History

The event was started 13 years ago. The event has since been organised annually by Birmingham Council of Faiths and Birmingham Scout Association at Hampstead Academy.

Children from different faiths work in multifaith groups and visited 6-7 faith bases at which they learnt some aspect of each faith by carrying out a fun activity, such as making a coloured collage for Divali, playing a lotus board game, making Celtic crosses, eating Sikh langar, singing Baha'i songs and learning about the Five Pillars of Islam.

The day concluded with a simulated campfire, traditional campfire songs and activities. All children are presented with a certificate verifying their participation in the event.

The event brought together 50 adults, of different cultures and faiths who worked together, in a way that they would not normally do, through providing exciting activities for the children.

2020 Pandemic Lockdown

The event ceased the usual in person event and instead went online in May 2020. The virtual event was attended by over 50+ participants with their guardians/parents. It was the first of its kind in the history and was a successful one.

2021 Pandemic Lockdown

Due to continuation of the Covid-19 lockdown, our 13th Annual Faiths for Fun was a virtual event. The event was organised jointly by Birmingham Council of Faiths and Birmingham Scouts. However, we were joined with Birmingham Guides as well.

Following the event, youngsters were invited to submit a photo or video of 2 activities they have carried out. There was 2 prizes for the winners in the 7-9 and 10-12 age groups, and a certificate for all entrants was provided. For Scouts and Guides, it also counted as 2 activities towards the More in Common badge.
